Teaching content

Based on an intensive collective practice, we will approach several compositions chosen for the importance of the pulsing rhythm. Oral learning, analysis, memorization, as well as inner listening to our own rhythmicity will be our modes of exploration. We will make connections between rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, and instrumental constraints. We will integrate elements of compositional vocabulary with the intention to use them as improvisational tools. This is an opportunity to renew your own learning methods so that you may invent more as your improvisational needs evolve.

Teacher's biography

Guillaume Orti's singular voice comes from the contemporaneity of his approach. He's a member of several important groups from the music improvisation European scene. The alto saxophone remains his instrument of predilection but depending on the projects he also plays soprano saxophones, mezzo-soprano, C-melody or baritone, as well as the Korg MS-20 synthesizer.
